Cerebral Palsy

According to the CDC, Cerebral Palsy is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. Cerebral Palsy is the most common motor disability in childhood. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles.

There are 4 different types of CP

Spastic- increased muscle tone; muscles are stiff

Dyskinetic- problems controlling movement

Ataxic- problems with balance and coordination

Mixed- having more than one type of CP

CP not only affects walking, balance, and coordination but can sometimes make it difficult to eat or talk.
